On August 26, 1920, women gained the right to vote with the passage of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. OK not all women. But an important first step. And we know that the social justice fight continues for many.
We do not know what kind of social distancing we will have to be doing in August, but Troop 2832 is planning our 19th Amendment Celebration.
We already took a virtual tour (our in person tour was cancelled because of the pandemic) of the Women March exhibit at the New York Historical Society.
Two of our Troop 2832 Girl Scout Cadettes put together a historical look at two early women’s rights fighters – Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony. Read more on their website, therevolution2020.org.

We would like to thank everyone who supported our 2020 African Library Project book drive – from those who donated books to those who donated funds for shipping. THANK YOU!
We started the book drive this winter and were interrupted by the pandemic. We did not know if we would be able to finish the book drive or how ALP would be getting books to Africa.
We waited and finally learned we could still finish our book drive. We waited some more and just this week during Phase 2 reopening finished sorting and packing. We sent 626 books to a secondary school in Malawi. The books first travel to New Orleans where ALP will put them on container ships to Africa.
The Girl Scouts of Greater New York put out, “More than a statement. A change” and we are so proud to be part of an organization that takes social justice and change so seriously.
The Youth Ambassador program is “a unique volunteer leadership program designed for youth who are passionate about helping others. Through experiential learning opportunities, workshops, and events, the YA program empowers youth to make a real difference in their local communities and in our African Partner Countries.”
We are excited to be part of a bigger effort to educate communities about the need for books around the world. Some of us have also joined the ALP Book Club and are reading A Fish in A Tree together.
Thank you to all of the doctors, nurses and staff at Northern Dutchess Hospital. We appreciate how much they take care of all of us. We are sharing 8 cases of Girl Scout cookies so when you feel a little tired you know we are thinking of you!
We sent pictures and videos to nursing home residents who could not have visitors or get outside.
We donated part of our cookie money raised to Samaritan’s Purse, the organization which has set up a field tent hospital in Central Park.
We are also continuing to have troop meeting on Zoom and we are working on our Media Journey. We are working on this main project during this time: “Living and Coping with Our New Reality: A View From Girl Scout Cadettes.”
We believe our voices need to be heard. Please come back to read our stories.
We want to remind everyone how important it is that you be counted in the 2020 Census. We learned all about it earlier this year and are collecting your pledges so that we can earn our Census patch.
Please join us in pledging to take part in the census. Fill out this pledge card (link here) and email it to us at nycgirlscoutstroop2832@gmail.com. We need to collect 100 minimum pledge cards before May 1, 2020.
Thank you!

We feel so grateful we were able to go to Camp Kaufman for our Cadette Adventure weekend February 28th – March 1st. We were able to learn so many new skills (building a fire), build on our Girl Scout bond (ropes course) and experience such a beautiful place (hiking). Oh and we loved making the No-Bake Granola Bars!
